A great conclusion to the story and some great plugs for Rootschat.  There are at least 3 links to Rootschat on the updated Castle Coombe website.

Thanks Jane for starting a really fascinating thread.

It was FUN!  And thanks to everyone who dived into it with such enthusiasm  Cheesy  It's so nice to know that a little piece of history has been preserved for future generations not to mention the memory of Hannah, a fitting epitaph for anyone!

A triumph of Rootschatters, well done everyone, its been a great story.  I wonder how many of us will manage to visit Castle Combe and see the original.  I hope whoever threw the sampler out gets their conscience pricked so hard that they have to own up as to why they did the dastardly deed, but nevertheless provided a lot of fun for the searchers and a wonderful story for the rest of us to read.

I for one will keep my fingers crossed that a few last loose ends will be tied up after the next copy of the New Zealand Genealogist is published.

Lol Helen, if that's Fordingbridge in Hampshire your husband will have a fit, that's some detour  Shocked

I've followed this from the start and loved every minute, every time I see a sampler in future I'm going to have to be restrained from buying it Cheesy!

I know it's been said before, but no harm in saying it again Smiley, this has been a lovely story.  Especially good for me to follow as it combines my two greatest interests, samplers and family history  Grin.

Suey - go for it Cheesy, if I see any I am certainly going to buy them...trouble is they don't come up that often and when they do  Huh...big bucks nowadays Sad.

I did a family tree sampler for the millenium...do you think our grt grandchildren will be researching it in 150 years time  Grin Cool Grin, cooool!!!

Anyway, thanks again everyone for such a lovely interesting thread Smiley.

I have loved this thread so much, thank you for everyone who got involved.

Julie- What a great idea perhaps we should do our own. I saw one today at the Colne Valley Weavers museum from a lass of 8 to record a death of a family member, a bit sad but I have a great event to start mine.......

Some wonderful news from John the curtaor at Castle Combe Museum.......

Hi Jane,

We had the following request from a local publisher. I was wondering if you
would have any objections in us recounting the story for them to include in
their magazine? We would certainly be OK writing the article and could ask
that you be provided with a copy (perhaps via e-mail)?

Best regards,

John Mackelden

---
I'm the production editor on Cross Stitch Collection magazine (published by
Future Publishing in Bath) and we noticed the story about the sampler that
was recovered in New Zealand and donated to the museum. I was just wondering
if you'd like to do a little piece about it to feature in the magazine? It
would be a good human interest story for us and good publicity for the
museum and Castle Combe. If you are interested, I'd need hi-resolution
photographs of the sampler, the museum and Castle Combe, preferably
including the curator or even the lady that found the sampler if you had
them. I'd also need 500-800 words about the discovery, the sampler and the
genealogical research that went on too.

We also do a genealogy magazine here called Your Family Tree and they might
be interested too, so I will bring it to their attention as well.

I appreciate you probably need to OK using the genealogical stuff with the
people from Rootschat who researched it, but obviously we would be more than
happy to credit them too.

I've replied that we have no objections as long as Rootchatters are given the credit and the site address is included!

Let us know which issues the story is going to be in.

Might have to take a copy in to my local family history group  Wink

Wonder if that'll mean we get to 30,000 members more quickly.    Grin Grin Grin

Exciting end to a lovely story Grin Sure Hannah had no idea what a stir she'd cause by stitching that sampler.
