I have contacted my relative from NZ via email , some of her immediate family were born in  Aukland . However not the strongest of links as her father was only brother in law to the relation related to Mary Wallop and John Broom Widcombe.

Hi Steve & thanks for joining in on the search.
Helen, thanks for that link, at least we know by that article that immigrant passenger litsts  to NZ have been searched from 1840-1880, but I suspect that was in the name of Hannah Wallop, not by her married name, Breley, which wasn't known prior to this search.
A big thank you to all rootschatters who have made a contribution here...are you enjoying it as much as I am Cheesy?

Jane

PS.  I'll do a recap on all the information so far gathered, so watch this space.

Thanks for that Annie, I think my Florence may be living in Gloucs if someone could look that up for me , Born 1868 in wilts living Gloucs.

Agnes married was Startin and appears to be  living in Derby

Percy could be in London with William Startin his brother in law as William doesnt appear to be with Agnes.

I can find no plausable link for Edith ,Blanche or Francis in 1891

Looks like the family was breaking up about 1881 as John Dowding was boarding at an inn , leaving Eliza at school with the kids, might explain why they are scattered in 1891

RECAP:

Hannah WALLOP birth reg March quarter 1838 Chippenham (8 284)
Married William BREYLEY Sep. quarter 1860 Chippenham (5a 69)
1861 census (7 April) both at School House, Brightling.
LOOK WHAT I FOUND Cheesy birth reg of Alexander William BREYLEY Sep. quarter 1861 Battle (2b 43)  Could this be their first child???  Another name to look for on passenger lists!
1866 Kelly's Directory NOT at school in Brightling.  As the information for directories was normally gathered one year in advance of publication, I think we can say they were not there in 1865!
So IF they sailed for NZ, I estimate they left between the end of 1861 -1865, perhaps that narrows it down.

Possible death of her stepmother, Susanna Wallop June quarter 1873 age 65 Chippenham.
Possible death of her father, Samuel Wallop March quarter 1877 age 70 Chippenham.

Still no sign of them on 1871,1881 & 1891 census even using Alexanders name.

I feel that the spelling of the surname will be BREYLEY as that's how it appears for the marriage & the possible son's name & as they were both teachers, they would have been quite literate.

Don't forget we may get some feed back from the NZ journal that Riley's written to.  Here's hoping Smiley

Looks good that Susannah and samuel were from Eliza Ann's family . If mum died 1884 that would explain Susannah living with Grandad

Just a thought.

Are we sure that William & Hannah emigrated to New Zealand first, or could they have first settled in Australia?  Undecided

Only ask because someone on gr has an Edith E Breyley born 1863 in Muswellbrook NSW? Wink

Going to message her in case. Grin

There are also two people on GR who have WALLOPs from Castle Coombe in their trees.  Both have Mary WALLOP but one has 1835 and the other 1840 as the DOB so it could weel be the same Mary but with a doubt about her DOB.

Worth contacting these people?

Al

ps Not sure if there is already a link to the other thread where Hannah's marriage details and those of her Mother & step Mother were sorted out
