I do truly understand and of course I am very grateful for what you have done for me. Forget the Mcneal name as this seems to have originated in Cockermouth and was a maiden name. If you could just look at surname index for Marsden/Marston in 1871 in Carlisle that would be great, as its all the same family (honestly). Then I think maybe I need to visit again the castle.

I also have a photocopy of Marstons at 10 Union Street, Carlisle, which includes   Margaret  (head)  62 yrs, Margaret (dau) 39 yrs, then Daniel, Margaret, Elloner(?) and John.  If this is of interest I can email it to you

From the surname index only  Edward & Mary Marsden and Daniel Marston are listed. The others aren't mentioned

Thank you so much for the information, you don't need to mail me the 'copy, as I'm not sure these are anything to do with me although I have made notes on what you have found. I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you have put in for me, looks like my lot have moved down country by 1871 so I shall be trailing through the '71 for Lancs. now.
