ASHCROFT BELL & MCGURK Newcastle Upon Tyne
« on: Wednesday 22 September 04 05:50 BST (UK) »

Searching for some descendants of these people...

Emily Dixon- Chapman  (maybe) b.abt.1880, I presume Newcastle Upon Tyne. Looks like she married my G.Grandad Francis Mcgurk in 1905, they had a son John Gregory Mcgurk in 1906 in Durham. John Gregory married an Ellen and lived Co-Bensham Durham. John and Ellen we think had sons John b.abt.1932 and Francis b.abt.1934 born Durham.

Elizabeth Ann Bell late Ashcroft b.c1888, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Married Francis Mcgurk 1918, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Elizabeth had two daughters, Kate and Adeliene Ashcroft  then twin boys Clive and Kenneth Mcgurk, Kenneth was my Granddad. Last  location for them was in 1922, Gateshead.

Elizabeths father was an Isaac Bell and mother an Ann(ie) Bell. Elizabeth was married to a John Ashcroft c1912 before my Francis McGurk

Francis Mcgurk took the twins to live with him in Devon in 1927 apparently with a lady called Catherine Symes/Simes and I believe Elizabeth stayed living in Newcastle Upon Tyne, somewhere.??!!

Thanks ele...

Thanks for your reply.. Great to hear from people searching McGurk at long last!

I haven't yet come across a Susannah though, sadly to say.

My McGurk's,

Frank McGurk b.Belfast Antrim c1817-27, a Smith.
wife, Alice ? b.Dundulk Louth. c1820-24.
dau, Mary Ann c1848 Newcastle Upon Tyne.
son, John Francis c1851 Newcastle Upon Tyne.
dau, Catherine b.1854 Newcastle Upon Tyne.
son, James b.1857 Newcastle Upon Tyne.
dau, Francis c.1860 Newcastle Upon Tyne.

(also maybe a Charles, Thomas and a Francis...but may have two McGurk families muddled!)

John Francis McGurk (or did use Francis John McGurk) c1851.
wife, Margaret Elizabeth Bulmer formerly Hartley b.Ripon York.
dau, Beatrice B M Hartley (used McGurk on census) 1874 Newcastle Upon Tyne.
son, Francis McGurk b.15th July 1878 Gateshead Durham.

Francis then married an Emily think Dixon-Chapam in 1905 and had John Gregory then married an Elizabeth Ann Bell formerly Ashcroft.

My McGurks lived 116 Queen st Newcastle Upon Tyne 1871.
                            Frank Tce Gateshead 1881.
3 Nelson Street (Engineers Arms) 1878 up.
Chetham Road Gateshead (the Globe Inn)
                            in 1891.
                            32 Elswick East Terrace Newcastle.
                            22 Rabbit Bank Road Gateshead.

I will keep a lookout for your McGurks.. I am very determined, it' my mums maiden name..

Thanks Ele..
