Brogreff mystery family 1841-1851
« on: Tuesday 31 January 06 03:44 UTC (UK) »

Their only seems to have been one family with this name and they lived in London the information I have is that that my third greatgrandfather William Broggref born Norfolk father was James Broggref a sea captan from Norfolk married to an Emma.
William was married to a Margaret Bolton who was born at Beaumaris in Wales in 1770 parents Thomas and Elizabeth. I suspect that William may also have been away at sea as the children seemed to have been born in London and christened the following year. Eliza born Hoxton 1795 Christened Shoreditch St Leonards Margaret 1796 also Jane C Ramsgate 1799 Ann born Finsbury 1800 C St Lukes old street Finsbury Martha 1802 William Thomas also Finsbury 1805 and William Henry 1808. George born Acton christened Westminster James born Kingsland road  Dalston  1810. Caroline no age Trafalgar street.
James born in 1833 married an Eliza Goodman in 1833 at St Pancras Old Church London I have no family information on this couple or William Thomas 1805 or William Henry 1808 but think most of the family would have been around Shoreditch area in 1841 if anyone was around by that name they would have to be my relatives.

Hi heather
I have just started on my wifes family tree, She is decended from jane christened in Ramsgate, dau of William and margaret.
Are you able to help in filling in the family tree that you have gained on the Broggref family.
I have ben unable to track very much through the census's, I can only assume the Broggreff sons either died or changed there names?

jane married john Hobbs in tasmania and moved to NZ.

are you desended from Jane as well?

Hi Roger

Thank you for making a post on this topic.

According to her profile, Heather has not been online here since October 2006.

If she has turned her notifications off or changed her email address, she won't get this message.

Fingers crossed that she hasn't done either and replies soon.

I too am related to this BROGREFF family (many spellings) and would like to contact Roger if possible.  William and Margaret BROGREFF had a number of children - one of whom was George and another was Jane.  George is my great great grandfather.
I think that the information about Jane's christening place is not correct - as although she was living in Ramsgate when she left to go to NZ, she was born in Hoxton in 1799.  There is a record on IGI which I am sure is incorrect, as it has her being born in Ramsgate.  I have more information and would like to make contact with Roger.
Heather has changed her email address, I think.

Jane BROGREFF and John HOBBS were married in St Phillips Church Sydney - not in Tasmania as is recorded by Roger.

Dawn and Roger
There seems to be some wrong information about Jane Broggref which has her being born/christened in Ramsgate.  This not correct.  It seems that she was in Ramsgate before she departed for Australia - but she was not born there - rather, she was born in London.  I think that at some time past someone has just assumed she was born in Ramsgate and left that information on a list somewhere and it has been adopted by many others, without verification.
I have received the email with Roger's email address and so will email him at that address.  Thanks for your assistance Dawn,
Regards
