Hi Trish
I would be really grateful if you could fit me in for a lookup in the Dunwich Benevolent Society Asylum records, which was on Stradbroke Island for a William Pollock Gilmour as no death registration can be found in QLD or NSW.
I have found a William Gilmour on the electoral rolls who was an inmate there. He was born 1860 Carmunnock, Scotland and married Mary Jane Sealey in 1884 at Bald Hills. The time frame would be from 1890 when their last child was born to about 1905.
This would be really appreciated

Hi Cazay
There seems to be one basic file which lists inmates and date of admission & according to the description a file number - most files having been destroyed (saves emarrassment later ).
You might like to do an online search of the catalogue for Dunwich AND Asylum - it returns quite alot of files & let me know if there is any in particular you would like checked, otherwise I'll just check the name index (and associated file if it has not been destroyed - unlikely).

Hi Trish
Dunwich Benevolent Society Register RSI4021 1885-1917
This should give his name, file no etc, just hope it's not one of the files which have been destroyed.
Thanks Cazay

Had some wins and losses today so
Nari - I found summary of the inquest (There was one) Will PM the details
DelB - I'm having very little luck with your man - I couldn't even find an index entry for the John W arriving in 1880 I checked some others so will send the details - but most were married - or the wrong age - sorry.
Goo - found the Quetta that janet had found (but no age on the film I saw ) and one other - but probably too old - will pm details
Cazay - found detail of the entry to the Asylum - but nothing on exit. The last line says - "No money No property No family" I don't think he is yours - He was (supposedly) born Ireland & Aged 67 in 1901. I'll send the details.
MarieC - sorry no sign of Thomas Hood Bentley

Hi Trish, Many thanks for that wealth of information about John W.Barker. Like you, I can't see any that match exactly but I am interested in the fact that the Ellen Barker wasn't travelling with John. Maybe, like the census, the ages could differ. I will follow up the other J.Barkers in previous census reports and see what turns up. Really appreciate your time on this one. You have been a busy lady! Cheers, DelB
