Help needed! looking for Morris John William & Henry William - Islington?
« on: Wednesday 01 February 06 15:42 UTC (UK) »

Help Needed !

I'm looking for John William Morris (DB abt1886)  and Henry William Morris his father -
(Mercht Seaman)  -  Islington,Shoreditch,Bethnal Green area ?

I know he married in 1909 (spouse Ada Bagnell) at the Shoreditch register office.

How do I trace where John William and Henry lived before 1909 ( tried the census no luck).

Can not find John's birth cert (unless I buy b/cert  around 1885, 1886,1887,1888 a small fortune).

Thanks,

Biddy

Hi,

Thanks for a quick response! (it took me 3 days to find this info).

I found this on the census -   so I ordered birth cert it came back, mother's name Margaret Carey and father name John Morris?

A marriage between a Margaret Carey and a Henry Morris may have took place in Bethnal Green  ( waiting for the cert to arrive).

Looks like Henry is dead by 1891 if that is the right family as Margaret seems to be married to an absent ? Lee - another seaman perhaps. You could have a search for Henry in 1881 putting vessels in parish box in case he is at sea.

Trouble is you don't know anything about him - when you get the marriage certificate if it is right one you will hopefully have father's name and occupation which might make it easier to find him and perhaps his age - finger's crossed it isn't just "of full age". Morris is rather a common name as well which doesn't help and from what you say about the birth certificate he could be known as John (or William I suppose ) Huh Roll Eyes

HI,
This is my great Nan’s wedding cert that my mum gave me of John William Morris and Ada Bagnell the groom’s father name is  Henry William Morris
Don’t know much about the Morris family - my grand dad never spoke about his family.

John William Morris Jnr db1913 Clerkenwell - mothers maiden name Bagnell
John William Morris Snr db 1886 married Ada Bagnell
Henry William Morris (Seaman) on marriage cert as father of the groom (John William Snr).

IS THER ANY OTHER WAY OF TRACING HENRY AND JOHN SNR BECAUSE THEY MAY NOT HAVE COME FROM EAST LONDON. Huh

Can't think of any other way at present. The John in 1891 and 1901 is looking good. Think you need to wait for that marriage certificate- hopefully it won't be too long coming.
