HENRY HAROLD MANNING approx 1935
« on: Wednesday 01 February 06 19:40 GMT (UK) »

Looking for shipping records of HENRY HAROLD MANNING (born 1910) who was known as HARRY who went to Australia approx 1925? from England

Harry went as far as I know on assisted passage with a few siblings (how many?) anyway he didn't like Australia and returned home in 1930..........when?

The other siblings stayed there.

He was granted a Commonwealth of Australia passport in 1930 at Government House, Canberra, Australia............and it was issued on the 19th August 1930 in Adelaide and on the return trip to England the Ship appears to have stopped at Colombo on the 3rd September 1930 (his passport has been stamped by the harbour police in the port of Colombo.

Thanks in anticipation

Genni

Thankyou very much for the info............that is certainly the right period in time, H H "it has been passed down" was 15 when he went to Aus.

Henry Harold Manning (died 1952) is a friend's father, he is of the belief that his father who was the youngest of 14 (12 lived beyond childhood) who were born over a twenty year period went to Aus with a few of the siblings, in fact he still communicates with one of the descendants to this day! I think he will have to ask a few more questions of those that are left and the one in Aus, were those siblings named Manning? or were they allready there?

UPDATE

Apparently..........they was allready there............anyone able to tell me when they went there

*my mate Manning an ex dock worker has informed me that he worked many a time on the ORSOVA

Thanks
Bryant

He never worked on the one his father was on to Australia.........

ORSOVA............ built by John Brown & Co of Glasgow in 1908.........it first went to Aus via Suez in 1909 and was scrapped in 1936

Now I know my mate Manning is old............but not that old!

Hi Bryant

As you have an approximate date for arrival into to England.  Have you looked at the inward passenger lists which are at the National Archives in Kew.

Genni

My mate and I are going to visit his elderly Aunt next week and she also shares an interest in the family Manning genealogy................. so hopefully all will be revealed on the names of those that went to Aus, pen and paper will be at hand!

Thanks for your help
