Who Do You Think You Are?

"The few details Julian Clary did know about his family history came from a sketchy family tree he drew when he was a child. But he knew little or nothing about most of the names on his list. Julian was keen to flesh out the stories of these mysterious relatives who existed only as a childish scrawl on a yellowing piece of card."...

I thought tonight was not quite as dramatic as last week, but nevertheless enjoyable.  Julian seemed to have been bitten by FH bug as well.

I thought tonight's programme was really interesting, although I was quite suprised at the predujice of having German ancestors. I've always been quite pleased at finding foreign relatives - it all adds to the interest of my tree.

Another very good programme - not least Julian Clary got really into thinking through what life was like for his ancestors.  The anti-German prejudice doesn't surprise me given the two world wars.

Family Ties (for those lucky enough to have digital) was very sad - adopted chap trying to find  his brother and finding that he had three sisters as well.  Uncovered a very depressing life story of his (real) mother and her inability to cope following over 10 years in an orphanage herself.  It was a salutary reminder that some family history research uncovers less palatable information, and does not necessarily arrive at reunions.

Enjoyed tonights edition, but not as much as Stephen Fry last week.

Couldn't wait for his mum's reaction about her german ancestors, I was shouting at the television, "Go and tell your mum, GO and tell your mum!!"

After all those years mocking her husband about his "foreign" background. Grin Grin Grin

Thought Julian was good also, very witty in places.

Looking forward to Jane Horrocks next week.

I was pleased to see a mention of Booth's Poverty Maps tonight.  I love those maps!  My most recent lookup was: "...worst street in Plumstead.  Noisy and drunken..."

Anyone researching an address in Greater London should check these out.

I thought that Julian Clary, minus all the make-up, was a bit lacklustre with his reactions to his various family revelations...The other three programmes captured the imagination much more...
