Elizabeth MARDELL/MARDLE

I am looking for a marriage of Elizabeth Mardell (Mardle) to a Foster within the Hertfordshire area.   She was baptised in 1791 in Ayot St. Peter, Hertfordshire  to a John and Ann Mardell (Mardle) but I have no further information on her.  I have looked at all the records I can find, but I just cannot find anything. 

The reason I am trying to find her is that she was at both deaths of two of my family and I am almost sure she is the sister of William Mardell who seems to have no baptism, but I have to prove it.

I found her on the 1861 census living in Ayot St Peter, aged 70 widow. 

Can anyone find something I have missed.  Miracles do happen!!!!

Thank you very much for this.  Something I had obviously missed!

If this is the same Elizabeth which I think it is, it looks like they might have got married in London rather than Hertfordshire. 

I will put the query on the London board as well.  Maybe something will come up.

The 1841 entry for Elizabeth makes interesting reading  ...

HO107/436/3   F.6.  P.5.   Ayot Green,  Ayot St.Peters.
George Foster   60  M.S.
Elizabeth Foster  50
George Foster  15
Ann Foster   12
Only Elizabeth born in county.
(Adult ages rounded down to nearest five)

Living  next but one to the Fosters    ...   
Ann Mardell  80 living with William and Sarah and family

The Hertfordshire Burial Index 1800-1851 records the burial of a George Foster  age 68 on 07 Jul 1846 at Ayot St.Peters.

The family living next door to the Fosters, is my Mardell family.  So I think I am finally getting a little way to solving the big problem I have had!

This helps no end, in trying to find their marriage.

Hi Hoppity,

There is no record of the marriage of Elizabeth Mardell on the Allen Index for Hertfordshire.  I did however find the marriage of William and Sarah on the Ayot St.Peters PRs viz   ...

William Mardel and Sarah Anderson, both of this parish were married on 18th May 1807 at Ayot St.Peters.  Witnesses John Matthews and Sarah Mardel.
(Sarah Mardel signed whilst the other three made their marks).

Hi Peter,

Thank you so much for looking for me.

William Mardell and Sarah Anderson are of my family.  It is William's father I am looking for.  I cannot find a baptism for him unfortunately, although on all the censuses he was born in Ayot?? 

I think the Elizabeth Mardell I am looking for might actually be the sister of William above and might hold the key to his parents.  I know it is a long shot but it is worth a try.  There is also the Sarah Mardell who married John Matthews (witnesses at William and Sarah's wedding).  I think she may also be a sister of William above.   Of course this is all just an idea but it is something worth following just to see if they lead anywhere. 

I followed up the Sarah Mardell and there was nothing on the marriage papers.  Perhaps there might be something on her death papers, but I doubt it.

That is why I have turned to Elizabeth to see if I can find a marriage and see if anything is mentioned on their papers. 

It is a big problem at the moment as unless I find William's parents, I cannot go any further with my family tree which is so very frustrating! 

Thank you so much for all your hard work.  It really is helping to put the jigsaw together.  You have been very kind and found a lot of things that I havent.
