Looking for JAMES GOODWIN perhaps GOODING about 1771 in Bedford - He married in 1793 to Mary Knott at St. Paul, Bedford and Mary was bap at St. Paul 1771. I have a clue that suggests his last name was Goodwin when born but Gooding when married. Definitely his children were born Goodwin but in Moulton. I have no proof he was born in Bedford, wishful thinking as Mary was. Can't pick him up on the IGI. Any help is appreciated.
Virtually all of Beds pre 1812 has been extracted onto the IGI, so if it's not on the IGI then the parish register is unlikely to add much. But have you checked the parish register for the marriage entry to see if his parish of residence is quoted, and to see if any helpful witness names might be there?
If all his children were born in Northants then it suggests that is where he may have been from. There's a member submission on the IGI (to be taken with large pinches of salt) of the christening of a James Gooding on 9 Aug 1767 at Ecton Northants, which is only 3 miles from Moulton.

Thankyou for your help.I'll check out the parish record for the marriage. The James Gooding in Ecton may very well be the James I am looking for. I did not realize how close Ecton was to Moulton. Thanks so much.
