George Coad/Codd and Mary Blackburn lookup

I am trying to confirm births and a marriage for George Coad or Codd and Mary Blackburn.  Both of them were born about 1782 or 83.  I don't know where in Wicklow, but they had children together beginning in 1811 (Catherine, Abraham, William, George, John).  The whole family apparently emigrated to Canada in 1820.

Any help with connections to this family would be appreciated.

Brian Bailey has detailed information about the Coad/Codd/Blackburn families in Canada. He is related to them and has an extensive website concerning all his known relatives who settled mainly in the Lanark county area of Ontario.

Hi,
Thanks, I've seen his site.  It is great, and has a lot of detail on Coad families after arriving in Canada.  My family is one of the smaller branches, and little is known (apparently) about their origins prior to arriving in Canada.

Thanks for your interest and reply.  I'm hoping that someone more informed than myself finds me someday!  Grin

Those of us who have developed an interest in the CODD migration to Canada would be happy to include you in our group of researchers. Even small titbits of information eventually weave together into a clearer picture. Just this week someone found a reference in the Fitzwilliam Papers to GEORGE CODD paying the leasehold for the family of a deceased JOHN GROVES in Upper Aghold Townland in 1821. This was helpful in narrowing down where exactly GEORGE came from (i.e. probably close to the GROVES farms). Later, in Canada, long after GEORGE moved his family to Kitley Twp., a daughter of JOHN GROVES - ANN HUNT (Daniel) located on the next Lot, and when Daniel died, Ann was taken in by the CODDs - who, by this time had changed their name to COAD.

GEORGE CODD married MARY BLACKBURN (a family name also seen often in Wicklow) and I believe other members of this family emigrated to Canada as well. GEORGE and MARY located at Kitley Twp. Con. V Lot 17. Their offspring are generally known, but the research leaves many unanswered questions, as is often the case. But it is ongoing.
