I can see Edward aged 23 in Ocle Pychard on the 1851 census.
In Norton Canon in 1851 are the following:
John Merrick - 25 Ann 60 Ann 27 Ellen Maria 25 Thomas 21 Thomas 53 William 17 James 54 Harriet 27
Are these yours ?

thanks for swift reply to merrick post...can`t say whether these merricks are related to edward....only have edward , his wife ann (nee jones) and the 3 children annamaria marianne and william taylor...but they have to be related in some way, being from a small village,i presume...edward was born 1827...could possibly have left this household in norton canon,as he would have been 24...could be his mother/father and bros/sisters..very curious now....thanks for info...it`s appreciated...allan

Is Anne's maiden name right as I can only find a marriage in 1849 of an Edward Merrick to an Anne Taylor in Dilwyn on the IGI.
I wonder where she and baby Anna Marie were in 1851

Can anyone locate them on the 1861 and 1871 censuses then please ?
If you get the marriage certificate for Edward and Ann then you can confirm the 2 fathers and occupations , addresses etc.
This will be at: Leominster Register Office The Old Priory Leminster Herefordshire HR6 8BQ
Certificates at £7 each.
I think Edward and his brother from Norton Canon are both dead by 1891.

I take it that it is 100 acres Edward has, an awful lot to farm on your own at 23.
And only 1 farm labourer employed too !
Add to this how far Ocle Pychard is across Herefordshie from Norton Canon, I thnink there is a mystery here of some sort, Susan can you find Edward in 1861 and 71 at all ?
