I wonder where he son William at this time, was he at the farm in Ocle Pychard ?
Agriculture was on the brink of a depression in the 1870s.
Need to consult some Herefordshire Directories to see who is faming in these villages.

Back a bit further:
We have deduced Edward was the son of Thomas and Ann who married on 15/4 1823 and born in Norton Canon.
His sister Ellen Maria was born to Thomas and Ann on 10/9/1925
Thomas was born to Edward Meyrick [note spelling change] from Bridge Sollars and Mary [Nicholas] who were married at Clodock in 1783.
they had a huge family , apart from Thomas there were :
1784 Edward who was born in Clodock
1787 John born in Norton Canon
1788 Mary
1790 Eleanor
1792 Simon
1794 Elizabeth
1796 James
1799 William
1803 Anna Maria
in 1805 an Edward Meyrick now widowed married Mary Gilbert in Clodock
Edward Merrick was born to Simon Merrick and Elenor in Letton on 14/10/1757
and full circle .............. Simon Merrick was the son of Edward and Ann Merrick of Norton Canon 28 April 1728

to susan and ebn....you absolutely amaze me how you gain so much info...susan on 1861 census you point out there`s no anna maria,but there`s no marianne either..(.it was marianne who married into the oakes family)..you`ll have to excuse me if my replies are a little slow but i`m up and down to the hospital for my father(80)..he`s had a stroke and weekends are when i can use pc most...will have to feed all info onto pc...thanks very much for the info..it far excelled anything i hoped for..if you need any info i can give,please contact me....allan
