Hi, there is a Thomas Hardy who married a Jane Miller at Saint Peter's 5 April 1767, know it is a long time before but...

Also there is a Thomas Hardy buried April 5th 1820 in Dorchester aged 79, parish clerk at Holy Trinity of S.Street (haven't a clue what the S means though!)

Hope this helps

Hi Jack, no probs, by the way was meaning to ask, do you know if you are related to the Thomas Hardy at all as he was born in Dorchester as far as I know, I have Hardy's in my familytree as well but they lived in Northumberland, miles away from Dorset.

Thanks alli and kena for that information

My g grandmother said her father Henry was descended from Thomas Masterman Hardy (born 5.4.1769 near Dorchester) of Trafalgar fame but he only had three daughters none called Catherine so if it is true it must be an illegitimate connection.

I know her father Henry Hardy was born in Weymouth (baptised 30.9.1833 Sutton) to a Catherine Hardy with no recorded father.
So far I can find no further information of a Catherine Hardy in the Weymouth vicinity who may have been his mother.
So I am trying to establish a link or eliminate other Catherine Hardys from further afield such as Dorchester.

Once again thanks
Regards Jack

Hello kena

As far as I know I am not related to Thomas Hardy the author (born 2.6.1840 Higher Bockhampton). Thomas Masterman Hardy (The Admiral) was born 5.4.1769, I think at Martinstown or Kingston Russell and later lived at Portisham.
