Reading Burial
« on: Wednesday 14 December 05 05:13 GMT (UK) »

I am hoping someone can find the grave location (and transcript of any gravestone if able to visit) of the following husband/wife in Reading:
Barbara GREENER - Died 16 Aug 1917 (88) at Blenheim Rd, Reading
William GREENER - Died Apr-Jun 1915 (84) at Reading

Thanks,
Tim

Did you mean to post this on the Berkshire board rather than Beds?

No - I believe Reading is in Berkshire.

Knowing the area, the most probable place they are buried is Cemetery junction. But it is a big cemetery.

Could also be the Henley Road Cemetery as this was being used increasingly by 1900.   The BFHS have got the records for both sites on fiche (and for some of the other burial grounds).

Is the cemetery junction off St Bartholomews Rd? - Is this only Roman Catholic?

Based on Reading Borough Council website (Community and living/burial and cremation records), I understand they maintain searchable records for Henley Rd cemetery (All Hallows rd, Caversham), Reading Cemetery (London Rd), and Caversham Cemetery- orig parish (Victoria Rd, Caversham). Records at office at Henley Rd Cem. and they can search with name and approx date immediately but prior to 1993 search can take time and a fee maybe charged for long searches. Has anyone found this service good or only for recent burials?
Is there an email address I can use to make a request being not in the country?

Had a quick look for you on their site,
try this link to the page
http://www.reading.gov.uk/communityandliving/General.asp?id=SX9452-A78064C7
there is a link there for a contact form for the service, I haven't tried it myself
I may be able to get you a photo if you can get the details, just post a look up request

Thanks Newbie for web address.
FYI - They came back to me to indicate no entry for william or barbara on their records. Also indicated if they were interned within an existing grave then they require the name and date of death of the previous deceased person as all entries to the grave relate from the first internment. Suggested I try churchyards.

Oh, what a shame.  I'm glad you managed to make contact though.
