Just signed up as I am struggling a bit.

I have traced my Gt Gt Grandfather James Barrow Bell to Overthwaite Farm near Farleton but would like to know his wife Nancy's maiden name. Is anyone on the same track please.

Hi Jackoslad,

Welcome to rootschat.  Cheesy  Cheesy

I have found your family on the 1851 census.

I can't give any immediate help re Nancy's maiden name (couldn't find the marriage on the IGI) but if anything else fails, you could order any of her children's birth certificates, which would give you her maiden name.

For instance
Barrow Bell
Birth June quarter 1844
Kendal Registration District
Volume 25 page 471

Searching for christenings in Witherslack for a Nancy ca. 1811, this one pops up:
NANCY HOGGARTH  - Birth 4 January 1811 / Christening 20 February 1811
Parents George Hoggarth and Isabella

Tempting, but we need proof...
