"bad extension"
« on: Saturday 04 February 06 15:00 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to upload a WORD document as the starting point of my website.  Each time I do so it fails to load and shows a "bad extension" notice.

What should I do to correct this problem?

Hi Terrance,

is this a website on "RootsChat free webspace" ?

If so, the allowed file types do include .doc files, but I'm not sure if that bit is working properly, somebody else reported problems there.

But even if you can load .doc files, how are you going to display them ??

A website expects a file called index.htm or index.html, which will link to other HTML pages.

Let us know, and we'll find an answer  Smiley

Bob:

Thanks for your reply.

I am indeed trying to start-up my Rootschat free webspace site and clearly do not know what I am doing.  I noted that .doc files were acceptable and just tried to upload the one in which I have been recording my two sons' ancestry without any thought beyond that.

So I guess my next question is -- how do I display my data?
Well, first I shall follow your suggestion and look at:

Thanks again,
