« on: Saturday 04 February 06 15:35 GMT (UK) »

Looking for information on Sarah Fletcher born 1828 in Bassenthwaite.  If anyone can help i.e. her parents, any brothers or sisters etc I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot Ange,  I'm sure that's the family, Sarahs age is
right isn't it?  Her borther had an odd name didn't he - Japhet.

Thanks again.

Hi Josie,
It may not be Japhet, that's just how it looks to me. He was probably her father rather than her brother looking at the ages of the older couple.

Hi Ange, could I ask you to look on the 1841c again please.

I'm having problems finding anything for Japhet if he's about 30 on the 1841, I've found his name for the year 1806 and I wondered if his age and Marys had got mixed up, she's down as 35.  Also could you check if it says she is a daughter
in law.

Sorry to have to ask but its confusing, I can't see those
children all being Isaac and Margarets, can you.

Thanks in advance, Josie

Hi Josie,
He is definatley down as 30 on the census, but that does mean he is aged between 30 & 34 as all ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5.
There are no relationships on the 1841 census, the information I have given you is all that is given on this census.

Ange, thanks for replying.  I can't see that William who was only 1 year old could be Isaac and Margarets child, I'm sure they are Japhet and Marys, but having said that, on the IGI there is a Sarah Fletcher, born 1828, Bassenthwaite, mother Margaret, father not named???

Japhet was born and baptised on 18 July 1807, so he would be 33 when the census was taken and would be entered as "30".  Mary was 36 (born 16 March 1805), so entered as "35".

Also Sarah (bap 15 may 1803
Dinah and Margaret (both born and bap 30 March 1810

The IGI records for 'Bass' on the IGI end at 1812, so there could have been others - find them here- www.familysearch.org

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your reply, I'd found Japhets birth 1807, but when I got Ange's reply saying he was 30 I thought there must be another one, didn't realise they rounded ages up or down!!!  Thanks for the dob and christenings, I will have a look at the site you mentioned.

Cheers,  Josie
