Searching for an Inquest in 1895 in Harpenden
« on: Monday 06 February 06 10:18 GMT (UK) »

Hi

i hhave a death certificate for a relative who committed suicide in 1895 in Harpendedn by jumping underneath a train apparentley in a moment of 'temporary insanity' , as he was living in bermondsey at the time I need to prove this is my man, but the death certificate does not state parents or next of kin.

Therefore I am searching for the inquest which was held in October 1895 in Harpenden or St. Albans.  His name was Frederick Thomas Beaney aged 30.

Many thanks

Gordon

HALS may well hold this inquest record.  They also have an extensive Herts Newpaper archive from which you may glean valuable information from comtemporary accounts of the incident.

It may also be worth contacting the Herts Advertiser to see if they also hold archives for the period.

Do you still need this - if so I can have a look in the St Albans Newspaper archives.

I had a look through all of October in the local newspaper archive, but found no mention of Frederick Beaney.  Do I need to widen the search as far as dates or was it definitely October?
