A lot of my mother's family seems to go back to Linlithgow area. I have William McCulloch, buried in Linlithgow churchyard, died 1812, mason and Innkeeper at Linlithgow Bridge (technically just over the Avon into Stirlingshire). His daughter Mary married William Fisher, a gentleman's servant at Hopetoun House, and possibly William F. helped run the Inn. Mary was innkeeper still in the 1851 census (again, just over the border, on the other side of the bridge over the Avon..)
William, born 1755, seems to have been son of Robert McCulloch and Euphemia Gillies, of Linlithgow.
Mary's son William Fisher married Margaret Whyte, from a Linlithgow family - I don't know much about them and would like to know more. Anyone have information on any of these people?

Hi Jenny,
I found the births of 2 children in Muiravonside (which basically is just along the road from Linlithgow) to a William Fisher and Mary McCulloch - they might be yours?

Thanks Ann - indeed they are mine. I did not have the birth dates previously (though had the other info including baptism dates).
Is any further information recorded in what you have? And do you know if this is the complete OPR info? Muiravonside parish records tend to be a bit scanty, alas.
William Fisher and Mary McCulloch were married in Edinburgh in 1812 - I have this record from OPR. Am really short of information on the Whytes though!

Occupation: Coal miner's wife. Children: Thanks, Wildgoose. There may be a relationship somewhere back a bit. But I am looking for Whytes specifically around Linthithgow and Muiravonside, a bit earlier.. Margaret Whyte was born around 1823, her parents were James Whyte (b. 1801) and Marion Boyd, and these are the ones I'm currently looking for... though many of the Whytes did end up in Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire, a bit later!
So, I'm trying to work back from Margaret Whyte, through her parents. I do have one sibling for her father James - Andrew, b. 1818, who became a blacksmith in Polmont (again, over the border in Stirlingshire), and there is evidence that family connections were retained. Andrew and James were the sons of John Whyte and Mary Scot, who married in Linlithgow in 1798... but what were their occupations or how they lived I don't know.

Hi Jenny,
Does the info you have for James match the following?
WHYTE , ?, son of John Whyte and Mary Scott Born 13th January 1806, Christened 2nd February 1806, Linlithgow, West Lothian.
I found this entry in the BVR's, unfortunately there's no Christian name listed.
Also, I couldn't find anything for a Margaret born to James Whyte and Marion Boyd but I did find this one:
WHYTE, Mary, daughter of James Whyte and Marion Boyd Born 4th May 1827, Christened 27th May 1827, Muiravonside, Stirlingshire.

Thanks Anne, Yes, I have the mysterious 'Whyte" born in 1806 - though didn't have a specific date listed, and don't know what's going on here ...
Mary in 1827 is known - the younger sibling of my g-g-grandmother Margaret Whyte, who was born 13 OCT 1823. What I'd like is to know more about her or about the family - how they were living, and in particular their antecedents.
