1841 census - Joseph YOUNG & Richard YOUNG
« on: Monday 13 February 06 09:52 GMT (UK) »

Would someone be able to locate Joseph YOUNG (wife Ann Davis, I think) on the 1841 census please? They married in 1785 at Longden by Upton on Severn.

Also, his son, Richard YOUNG (wife Martha), born in Upton but was in Hallow as a blacksmith in the 1851.

Thank you.

Many thanks, Nicky. This does look like the family. Funny thing about the ages, they vary wildly between censuses.

Nicky, can I ask if you can locate Ann YOUNG, the mother of Richard, on the 1841? If she was 20-ish when she married Joseph YOUNG (who didn't appear to be there) she'd be born around 1765. Thank you.

Thanks again, Nicky. Not sure if either of these is right but seeing an Ann YOUNG there does make me think that she might be the widow of Joseph YOUNG and living with one of their offspring. Food for thought.

Looked at Longdon register today and viewed the marriage of Joseph YOUNG and Ann DAVIS, 31 Aug 1785, both of that parish.

Joseph and Ann each made their mark (X), as did witness Isaac BOSTON.  Second witness was Joseph BEALE.

In the Hallow baptismal register:

1819, Mar 14 - John and William (twins)
                                        s/o Richard/Martha YOUNG - Village  - Blacksmith
1821, Jan 31 - Marianne d/o         "         "
1822, Sep 17 - James
1824, Feb 18 - Ann
1825, Oct   5 - Richard
1827, Aug  5 - Caroline
1828, Dec 14 - Joseph
1830, Nov --  - George
1832, Sep 23 - Mark
1834, May 18 - Elizabeth
1836, May 29 - Samuel

Thank you very much, Chilis for this lookup. I'm very grateful.

Just a thought -- does the marriage register give any details of occupation? Or age? I wondered if Joseph YOUNG was a blacksmith like his son, Richard. But I expect the register just gives the bare minimum, unlike in later years.
