I as told that Thomas TINKLER aged 10 was in the 1841 census in the Hartlepool area. I have searched the 1841 census for that area a number of times but can not find him. I do have the marriage of Thomas in 1854 and it states on the certificate that his father John TINKLER was deceased. I would really like to know if he was with his father in the 1841 census . Any help would great and it would sort out another problem. Adamand

My elusive Thomas Tinkler. I know he was born in Greatham in 1831. I know he was married to Alithea Ward at Sunderland in 1854. I know he had children born in Durham, Sussex, Kent and Ireland. I have him in the 1871 census as a furniture dealer in Stockton. I have his death in 1878. I tried the Durham records and they have him on the 1851 census at Greatham age 20 and that would fit in with his birth date. I have the 1851 census for Greatham that I bought from CFHS but he is not listed in it. I do not mind buying records and like most others searchers have bought duff ones that I have given to NDFHS. I have bought the Stepping stones 1841 census so I think I will just have to widen my search in that. Thanks, Adamand

Hello Helen. That is fantastic. Thank you for your help. I can now continue with my research Out of curiosity I would be interested with who he was with at Stockton(1851 census) because he was listed as a draper in the 1854 marriage entry, living at 25 high st, Sunderland and his wife to be was at 49 High st. Sunderland.Once again a big thanks. Adamand

Thanks Helen,I had a look at the Slaters 1854 directory and Mr White & Mr Wilkinson and entered at White and Wilkinson, Linen & Woolen Drapers 47 High st. So My Thomas may have left soon after and moved to Sunderland and then came back to Stockton in the 1870s . Adamand
