HART
« on: Monday 13 February 06 21:35 GMT (UK) »

I am researching HART of EGTON starting with Bridget Hart bapt 9 Oct 1802 and married to William GARBUTT.  Her parents were Thomas Hart of Egton and Ann HARLAND of LYTHE.  Does anyone have an interest in these names?

I have just some across the Hart/Harland names in my tree!

I have Ann Hart marrying James Thompson. In 1841 their son William is living with a Thomas Hart. Is this your Thomas? I had assumed that Thomas was Ann's father but as the familysearch IGI is incomplete, I cannot find a suitable birth/christening for this Ann. According to the 1841 census she is 30 (rounded up/down?), but the only birth I can find from Thomas Hart and Ann Harland is of an Ann Hart b.1821......

I would be interested in your connection to the family and if you can shed any light on if Ann Thompson nee Hart is the daughter of Thomas and Ann nee (Harland) Hart

Looking forward to hearing from you

I see you also have Thompson listed in your name interests, and Garbutt (I have an Elizabeth Abram m. 1. William Garbutt 2. Richard Askew

ps. just checked my info again, and found that there is a christening for an Annah Hart in 1811 Egton, father Thomas, no mothers name though, so I dont know if this is a child of Thomas and Ann nee Harland Undecided

There is also an "adult christening" , in 1821 Whitby, on the IGI familysearch site, for an Ann Hart born 1811......

Dont know which one is mine  Undecided

The father of Bridget was Thomas HART bapt 28 February 1769 at EGTON.

On 27 April 1802 at EGTON he married Ann HARLAND who was baptised on 20 January 1781 at LYTHE and their eldest child Bridget was baptised 9 October 1802 at Egton.

Thomas was interred at GLAISDALE (Head) on 14 December 1847 and Ann was interred at EGTON on 11 May 1839.

I have Annah HART bapt 10 March 1811 at EGTON, daughter of Thomas Hart and Ann Harland.  She was one of eight children to Thomas & Ann that I have been able to identify so far.

I have no reference to any James Thompson.

Thomas Hart outlived his wife Ann and I see from the 1841 census that there was a Thomas Hart living at NAB END, Egton which was where Ann Hart died so it is resasonable to assume that this is the family that we both may be interested in (this is the first time I have had the chance to look at the 1841).

The William Hart (age 35) listed in the 1841 is probably his son - the date fits - but I cannot relate to the other names listed as the ages do not fit with anything I have.  The William Thompson that is listed does not relate to any of the other names listed and so may well be a grandson but there is no immediate evidence of this.

I don't know if any of these ramblings of mine fit in with your view of things and maybe I need to do some more research but I would be interested to hear from you again in due course.

Best wishes, Bernard

Thanks for the reply,

I got back to the Hart family tracing Ann Askew nee Thompson from the 1861 census. She is my ggg grandma.

In 1861 she is 25 born "Glazedale". (I know she had a brother Frank, who emigrated to the US because I have shipping records of Ann's son Augustus going to the US to join his uncle Frank Thompson)

The only suitable candidates off the 1841 census (she is a servant in Whitby for the Leng family in 1851) is Anna Thompson (age 30) with children Ann (5), Frank (3) and Hannah (1). (I know Ann's father is called James, from her marriage certificate) From this I found this marriage -

James Thompson and Anna Hart 14/11/1833 Egton (familysearch IGI)

So I am assuming this could be the same Annah as you have .......  unless you have already found a marriage for your Annah?

I don't have a mariage for Annah Hart - she would have been GGGG Aunt to my wife so it has not received a great deal of attention as yet.  I will try and do some work on this and get beck to you.

I don't have much on THOMPSON but what I have is largely in the WESTERDALE area.  My GARBUTT  family are largely in the EGTON area.

Apologies if you received an incomplete reply.  My fingers went in the wrong direction!

Best wishes,
Bernard

Thanks for the reply, I look forward to hearing from you. I am also in touch with someone in Whitby, who is also researching this line, so we will eagerly await any news you have to confirm that Annah Hart is our Anna Thompson pre marriage.

Best Wishes

I have just been taking another look at my HART line and trying to identify Ann Hart b 1821 that you mentioned when we corresponded back in May/June 2006.

On the face of it the IGI entry for Ann Hart bp 21 June 1821 to Thomas and Ann Hart would appear to be mine.  If so then this might throw my research to date into some confusion.  There are three baptisms to Thomas & Ann in EGTON but there are also several other baptisms to Thomas (without a wife's name being shown) prior to these.  I seem to have latched on to those for Thomas and missed the three to Thomas and Ann.  That is not to say that they are not all connected but I now must express some caution regarding my earlier data until I have had a chance to check it all out again.

I have also had some disquiet regarding the fact that the Thomas I have and Ann were interred in different places.  Again, not conclusive but enough to raise a question.  It could be that there is another Thomas bearing in mind that Hart is quite a common name in the area.

All this probably doesn't help you much at this stage other than to open up the possibility of a link.  I will go back a bit and do some reconstruction to see if I can come to some better conclusion and let you know the outcome.

Best wishes for a very happy and successful New Year.
