Can anyone tell me where 37 West College St. was in Glasgow in 1856 and if it was a home or something else. My 2xgrandfather was born there, according to the register I have. Thank you again to Fifer for taking the time to double check before I leaped into that one.

I looked there and all I got was George and Albion Streets in the 1900's. Is that was College St.(specifically West College St.) became?  Huh I'm trying to draw a conclusion as to if my 3xgrandparents lived in Scotland for awhile or if they were just passing through.  Thank you for that site though.  Smiley I'm going to go check it out again.

If you go to /www.old-maps.co.uk/ and search using coordinates 259741,665231 you will see College Street as it was in 1865.  I cannot find a West College Street but College Street may have been split East/West with Shuttle Street being the dividing point.

Minime,

Try this link:

http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/townplans/glasgow_1_centre.html

Then click on a rectangle which as far as I can see has VI II 12 in it and also a capital C near the far right a bit below a red arrow.  A new window will open - click on the map and it will zoom in, click again for a closer view.  College street was/is dissected by Shuttle Street, so I suspect that either side of the divide was known as east and west, although it is not marked as such on the map itself.  The date of the map in the link is 1857-58.
