1901 census help, please
« on: Thursday 16 February 06 11:31 UTC (UK) »

Hello,
Could somebody please help me with this: I have been trying to find my grandfather, Michael Byrne in the 1901 Irish Census. He lived in Wexford all his life, in a little village called Camolin, and he was born in 1895ish.
Any help with finding this, or any advice as to how I can get any further with my research would be very greatly apreciated, as I have got no further back than my grandparents on this side!
Thank you,
Katie Smiley

Hi,
there is a site: www.leitrim-roscommon.com which has a link to 1901 census for some counties. Wexford has been partly transcribed and you can find some details on the site of Byrne families in Camolin (transcribed as Cambin) and what I assume neighbouring places. Camolin is in the parish of Oldross.
You might find some information there- it would be even better if you had other family details.
As you have a year of birth you could also get a birth certificate by searching the Irish Indexes if you have access to a local LDS centre.
By browsing Byrne, Wexford I also came across a site where someone has details of Byrne families of South Wexford. There is a reference there to families of Camolin and an email address although that is a few years old.
I wish you luck

Thank you very much for replying, Heywood! I will try the 1901 Census website that you recommended. Could you possibly please give me the address for the website of the Southern Byrnes?
Thanks very much,

Hi Katie,
I have tried to copy the address so that you could just link but it won't. I just googled  Byrne, Camolin, Wexford. A site comes up marked  "The O'Byrne Files © - Genealogy - The Byrnes of Ballymanus" - it's on there.
Hope it helps.
