After years of hunting have found my GGGGrandfathers date of death and place, can anyone suggest where he would have been buried, or even better a burial date/cem details?
John Cornes (Major 18th Regiment of Foot 2nd Bat) Died 24 February 1863 at Parkhurst Barracks. States in Index of will that he was formerly of Portsmouth but late of Parkhurst Barracks.
Any help appreciated

I have checked Isle of Wight and there is no burial details there. Anyone that has burial records for Hampshire, I'd be grateful of any help. Are there any pay per view lookup sites? Many thanks, Althea

Yes I emailed the IOW record office and they searched their records, plus someone else looked at newspapers, in case site was mentioned.
Thanks for the Portsmouth lead, I'll follow that up today.

Not that I know of - but didn't the IOW record office search their index, and that would include Freshwater

Yes sadly they have checked again, and County Archivist reples there are no records. Oh well back to the drawing board.

Thanks for that link Daisy, Lots of photos to look at. Yes I can see that many headstones have not stood the test of time.
