I'm looking for information about Marcel Adolf Poffo. He was born in London on August 15th 1905 (St. Pancras) and he emigrated to New York City in 1908.
His parents were Giovanni Battista Poffo and Jeanne Aldoma Holay. I am looking for information about his grand-parents names and other available information, so that I can connect him to my own family tree.
I believe that he died in Harrison, Westchester County, New York in 1933.I wonder if his death certificate includes grandparents names and if so where can i get it.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated
Many thanks,
Carlos Poffo

Hi Marcel, his brother Alphonse and mother Jeanne are listed on the Ellis Island site,http://www.ellisland.org, which is free to view, and says they were planning to join father Jean in New Jersey but I am unable to find them (so far) on any of the census. A look at the manifest may yield further clues that I missed. Regards, Valerie

The best bet to get a vital record in New York City is to check their web site. I have ordered many of them from Manhattan and they are very fast. The web address and contact info is: Dept of Records and Information Services. Municicpal Archives. 31 Chambers Street, Room 103, New York, NY 10007
Web site at www.nyc.gov/doris.
They explain what records are available by borough and year. For example- BRONX VITAL RECORDS: The Bronx did not exist as a separate Borough until 1898. New York City (Manhattan) annexed the area west of the Bronx River in 1874 and annexed the area east of the Bronx River in 1895. For vital records in those areas after the date of annexation, through 1897, search Manhattan records.
For Westchester County, check out the county website: www.co.westchester.ny.us Find the vital records office which will tell you how to contact the Town where the person died. In the US, the records are either held in the State (many cases they are very expensive to get a copy) and also the Town or Village. The local town or village will do a search and charge a small fee, usually between $5 and $15. I would try the Town of Harrison.
Please ley me know if you have any questions as I have done a lot of mail research in the New York City area. - kristin
