Hi,
I've recently discovered a new surname and I'd be grateful for a look-up on the 1841 and 1851 census for my 4xGt-Grandmother Hannah HALKON.
I have her death in 1854 and her age at death (79) places her birth at around 1775, and she should be living in Luddington, Isle of Axholme. I think her husband William died in 1836 so she is most likely a widow in both census returns.
If I can get a place of birth for her it should help in finding her maiden name.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Jo.

Yes, she was buried 12 Sept 1854 (79) William HALKON buried 28 June 1836 (60)
I can't find her in 1851.
The IGI has her maiden name as Hannah GELDER, marrying Wm HALKON 28 March 1799 at Luddington (although this is not a register transcription entry).
The IGI also has a baptism
Hannah GELDER 29 Jan 1775 at Flixborough, dau of Thomas GELDER and Rachel. This is a parish register transcription.
Flixborough is a couple of miles from Luddington on the opposite side of the Trent. However, there was a Thomas GELDER buried at Luddington in 1794 (no age given), which could explain the Luddington marriage if the family had moved there.

Thank you Geoff.
It's a pity she's not showing up on the 1851 census as if she gave her birthplace as Flixborough it would confirm things nicely but I imagine that the surname Halkon is very easy to mistranscribe. I'd noticed the marriage in 1799, but I believe they baptised their first child, John Halkon, on Aug 2nd 1798 so wasn't sure about this marriage, but I hadn't spotted the baptism for Hannah Gelder at Flixborough.
I think the William aged 40 in 1841 is probably Hannah's son who was baptised in 1799.
I'm not sure whether the Hannah aged 55 is her or not. The age is out and I've found several baptisms for her children on the IGI, but none for a Thomas.
You've given me something to work on now.
Thank you,
Jo.

I think you may find Thomas appears on the IGI as Thomas HAWKIN, parents "Wm and Hanah" bap 23 Aug 1802 - no other HAWKINs.
SARAH HALKON Christening: 21 SEP 1807 Luddington, Lincoln, England RACHEL HALKON Christening: 06 MAR 1812 Luddington, Lincoln, England THOMAS HAWKIN Christening: 23 AUG 1802 Luddington, Lincoln, England PETER HOLKON- Birth: 10 JUL 1806 Luddington, Lincoln, England HANNAH HALKON Christening: 13 FEB 1816 Luddington, Lincoln, England ELIZABETH HALKON Christening: 24 JUL 1817 Luddington, Lincoln, England MARY HALKON Christening: 17 MAR 1814 Luddington, Lincoln, England JOHN HALKON Christening: 02 AUG 1798 Luddington, Lincoln, England WILLIAM HALKON Christening: 21 NOV 1799 Luddington, Lincoln, England
Batches C030031 and C030032
Regarding the date of the marriage, perhaps it was just transcribed wrongly from a faded register ... I've done it myself!

Geoff, Thank you for the extra information.
I'd looked at the Halkon baptisms on the IGI but completely missed Thomas Hawkin and Peter Holkon.
Someone on the Lincs Look-up Exchange website had the Luddington PR's and kindly checked the marriage of William Halkon and Hannah Gelder for me - the date should be 28th May 1798 which is more in line with the baptism of their first known child in August 1798. It is looking extremely likely that Hannah Gelder is mine.
Thank you,
Jo.
