Dark Lane was a small mining community that was cleared to make way for Telford Town Centre.

Hi,

I know the original message was posted a while ago, but I have only just come across this site and their seems to be a lot of interesting information here, such as your posting, which definitely interested me as my (distant) family lived in Dark Lane (No 74) and worked at Dark Lane Colliery.

My family being:

Samuel Poole (My Great Grandfather b. 1857)
Ann Poole (Nee France b. 1857)
Emily (b. 1880)
Sussanah (b. 1882)
Elizabeth (b. 1883)
Richard (My Grandfather b. 1885)
Mabel (b. 1889)
Jessie (b. 1891)
Harry (b 1897)

I obtained some information and pictures about Dark Lane and the housing and a report about a pit disaster that happened in 1862 (I think), from Shropshire Archives, they charged a small fee but sent me a lot of useful information.
