Hi Rootchatters I have now added the Words Family Graves to the title of this topic. That is because it came to my attention some time ago. Some people when just looking at the title, think the M.I's are from War memorials. As you can see they are not.Nearly all of the Grave stones have the merchant navy anchor on the top,(That enabled me to do the easy ones first ) So you know one of the buried was a seaman.Even if it is not mentioned on the grave stone itself, Nearly all these graves contain relatives of the first one buried in the grave .Not necessarily the seaman. Also in some graves there are people with different surnames,Married daughters or grandchildren. Some of the deceased, came from Wales or Scotland originally. Others died in other countries. Ships are mentioned H.M.S and S.S. So it is worth trawling through the pages,if you think you have an ancestor who might be buried in the cemetery but don't know one of the family was a seaman (it could be a brother or son-in-law). When i am asked for a burial lookup i always check this topic first.Hope this will be of some help to you

Yes & yes All burials anywhere have to have burial records.Council cemetery records are all on film in the library of the area.Or any archives in the wirral.

I found this headstone the other day fallen and broken so i thought i had better record it before it dissapears under the earth ,I probably have it ,but the name doesn't ring any bells.I thought it a bit odd that there are no ages or places if lived outside the area at death. So think it might be a memorial,it wont be known till a lookup is done. However i decided for curiosity To see if i could find any registrations. The first,William Prescott who died in April 1914.Wasn't registered till June 1914 & he was 76 years.
The second William Prescott 1885 doesn't fit only one registered for that year.
Edith Prescott Oct 1892. If this is Edith her full name was Edith May Prescott and she was 23 years old.Late registration again Dec 1892 Reg B/H Sub dis Wallasey I cannot find Florence,Florence who? I have looked under Prescott nothing showing. Oh dear i pressed the wrong size
