Every Now and then you will come across on a Head stone the phase "Past The Bar" I know the History of The Bar. I am not sure of the meaning of it on a Head Stone though. You can find out about it on

No dust have I to cover me,
                       My grave no man can see;
My tomb is this unending sea,
                       And I lie far below.
My fate, Oh stranger, was to drown,
And where it was the ship went down
                       Is what the sea-birds know.

                            Dear Ancestor

Your Headstone stands among the rest,
            Neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
            On polished,marble stone.

It reaches out to all who cares
It is to late to mourn.
You did not know that i exist
You died and i was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you
            In flesh,in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
            Entirely not are own.

Dear ancestor the place you filled
            One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved,
            I wonder if you knew
That someday i would find this spot
            And come to visit you.

This Headstone has recently been uncovered or De-Grassed and is in two halves. The other half has The Daughter on. I was lucky to come across this because the other half will be taken away and lost forever.

while taking M.i's around three weeks ago i noticed in Rake lane cemetery .That some previously fallen headstones that had dissapeared under the grass. Had been de-grassed i had thought at the time relatives had done this to find the grave.
When i was collecting the above i came across a merchant seamans headstone that wasn't there a short while ago.
I have since found out that all these hidden and lost headstons are now being put back in place. If anyone working with the council on this project is reading this. Congratulations the cemetery gets better and better. Keep up the good work
