I am trying to trace William Hines born abt, 1858, left England aged 12 years old for America , Lived in Springfield USA fought in the American civil war. Returned to England in 1923 with his daughter to live back in Bushey, I have a photo, of him with his daughter on his return wearing a five pointed star war medal, plus a cutting from the Daily Mirror dated 1923. he would of been about 65 years old then. He was my Grandmothers uncle. Tanks Tweet

Hi Tweet,
I have found a Hines family in the 1851 census for Bushey viz ...
HO107.1714 F.136. P.12. Sparrow House, Bushey. Martha Smith Head Widow 62 Char Woman Rushton, Northants Henry Hines Son M 38 Labourer St.Albans, Herts Martha Hines M 35 Dagenham, Essex Martha Hines Dau 10 Bushey, Herts WILLIAM HINES Son 8 Bushey Herts Emma Hines Dau 5 Bushey Herts Thomas Hines Son 3 Bushey Herts
By 1861 William had moved on but the family entry reads
RG9/832 F.110. P9/10. Sparrow House, Clay Hill, Bushey Henry Hines Head M 50 Farm Labourer St.Albans, Herts Martha Hines Wife M 45 Romford, Essex Emma Hines Dau 15 Bushey Herts Thomas Hines Son 13 Bushey Herts Esther Hines Dau 9 Bushey Herts
The IGI records the christening of William s/o Henry and Martha on 21 May 1843 at Bushey and also William George s/o William Hines and Mary Ann Fitzjohn on 24 March 1867 at Bushey.
Further probing will hopefully prove whether or not this is the family you are tracing but I thought you should have the information in the background whilst you make your enquiries.
Good luck with your enquiries.
Regards ... Peter

Hi Peter. Thanks for that info, I will look at that in detail later, I have some more info, to put to the last post, My Grandmother Matilda or Mathilda Hines, married my G/Dad James Tullett in a double wedding with her sister Olive to a James Smith. at the parish church St James the Less, I'm led to believe William was christened at the same church abt,1842/3. Also he died in April 1920?? in Bushey aged 78?? When i can confirm all this i want to trace his USA Family. Thanks for you time and trouble Tweet

Hi Jacky
You are welcome to what i have if it helps. i have only got Grandmother Mathilda Hines , + her uncle William Hines ( yankee uncle as he was known as in the family ) i have a photo of him and his daughter when he come back to the UK in 1923. + a paper clipping from the Mirror from 1923. I am trying to build a picture up of him and his family in the USA and where he ended his day's. I haven't managed to find out what the medal is on his pic,s but it's got to be connected to American civil war. A medal of honor is a 5 pointed star but i haven't found his name on the list. ? Regards Keith

Hi Jacky.
That is the same paper clipping! My cousin has the original cutting his mother wrote on it it red pen . I e-mailed him with your last message and he has replied with a lot more info on what he know's, when i have time i will type it up and send it. (watch this space ) I believe he went to the states abt, 1858 aged 12 yrs, old. they had an orange grove according to my cousin Jim. Springfield, USA. I have put another photo, in attachment of him and his daughter on his return. Regards Keith.
