« on: Thursday 23 February 06 22:55 GMT (UK) »

I have my ggrandads wedding certificate 1898 henry lee age 24
married mary bell age 25 at reg office teesdale county of york and durham, I have searched ancestry.co.uk till I am cross eyed for them in the 1901 census, and no luck, I have found henry's family in 1891 with no problems, any help or suggestions would be appreciated, tried durham online as well, no luck. Hi, Can you tell me his place of birth?  Also have you already checked www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk ? You don't need to pay just to do a person search and it may be better indexed than ancestry.com

Hi Annie, thanks for reply, but we are all northerners, I think. My gran annie lee was born in 1907, so he was around, and her sister eva was born in 1900,

The road was Collingwood S - there is a daughter there called Ever ~ could be the Eva you mentioned, a little older than you thought

if it's them, it looks like mary was expecting eva when they married, according to eva's wedding certificate she was 24yrs old, when she married in 1924, this is all so complicated, my grans story is mind boggling, with surname changes etc

Thanks Chrissie

Maybe she was pregnant, hasty marriages were not uncommon. Eva's birth cert might be interesting as it's the same quarter as the parents marriage.

Do you recognise, the son Thomas Lee?

Not at all, we all have to start somewhere. Often a fresh pair of eyes see things from a different angle. This site is always helpful. If you have an unusual names you have to think of lots of possible ways of spelling them ~ childrens names are sometimes shortened too.

Keep asking the questions, people here love a mystery to solve!
