To boldly go where no SMYTH has gone before.

Hi, Checked the 1881 census and there is no George Mollison listed from those dates, I searched ten years either side of 1869. There are a number of George M Turners, two are close, 1865 and 1874, both from the London area. If you want the details then drop me a line and I will gladly email them on to you. Best wishes John

Seeing as an 1881 Census look up has already been provided, I searched the free BMD's to no avail I am afraid. There were only 5 matches to the name George Mollison ranging from a death in 1866 (a man bearing that name born in 1787) to 1903, none of which could be yours.
There were many George Turners.
Did your husbands family ever speak of a rough area George may have been from in the UK?or any other names dates etc which you may have, If so this may aid a better search, even if you feel it may be hearsay, it may well help you and us on this board.
I also searched the Latter day saints website (which you can view 1881 census also ~ but not in full) but no luck there either.

I have checked the 1881 census again for MOLLINGSON, no results, there are hundreds for MOLLINSON, scattered all over the UK. Just been through the indexes for 1869 births and no George Mollinson/Mollison/Mollingson TURNER. I did not have time to search firther. Best suggestion I can make is to search the birth indexes, say from 1860 onwards, you can do this online via 1837.com or by visiting your local (?) Church of Latter Day Saints Family Centre. Probably 1837 is the easiest if you are in Australia! If I have time on Friday when I visit my local library I will do a search for you, no promises though, sorry!

For BMD indexes 1837 onwards, it's much better to look on www.freebmd.org.uk - which is now more or less complete from 1837 to at least around 1914, has a good search facility, and is FREE!
Searching for "George Mollison" as first names gives just one result: George Mollison Miller, born 1850, Jan-Mar, ref. Kensington 3 370, married Apr-Jun 1884, ref. St Geo Han Sq 1a 75, died Jul-Sep 1904, aged 54, ref. Westminster 1a 316a
and for "George Molison" also just one: George Molison Smith, born 1877, April -June, ref. Bristol 6a 54, no record of marriage or death.
[none for "Mollinson" or "Mollingson", which to my knowledge only occur as misprints for one of the above surnames.]
Hope this is some help
Denis Mollison
