On the 1851 census in England John Callison is down as being born in the cape of hope around 1818, father Peter Callison a mariner, mother unknown. John also had older brother Peter Frederick, but do not know if he was with them. The next place I have them is Tynemouth in 1842. Is their much chance of any records.

Hi Sirius,

I've checked a couple of sources for you and have not come across the name.  With Peter listed as a Mariner,  you might want to see if anyone can do a lookup for you in the "Regimental Births Index" or Chaplains returns for the Cape of Good Hope.  Peter might well have served in the RN.

I've checked the following sources :

Extracts of Marriages at the Cape of Good Hope 1806-1821
and
Extracts of Baptisms at the Cape of Good Hope 1810-1821
both of these lists were compliled by C.Graham Botha and he states as a foreward to the Extracts of Baptisms:
"In this list are given the names of children baptised at the Cape of Good Hope, in the English Church there, or by the Chaplain to His Majesty's Forces.  The information has been gathered from the Cape Town Gazette,.."

Good Luck

Hi Leanne,

Would it be possible to find any information about Fanny Brewer, who was born in the Cape of Good Hope around 1851/1852.
Also are there census details for this area?

Thanks

Hi,
Sorry to reply so late!
There were unfortunately no census records kept during this time in the Cape Colony.
Your best bet would be to try and find a death record (these held the most information)
Did Fanny marry and die in the Colony? and if not, do you know what her parent's names might have been .. tracing a death notice for either of them might be the place to start.
best wishes
