1841 Census EDLIN Croxton Kerrial
« on: Friday 24 February 06 21:24 GMT (UK) »

Can someone find William Edlin born 1777 and his wife Jane born 1804, in Croxton Kerrial in 1841 please.  They both died in Croxton in 1849 where their children had been born twenty years earlier.

I am particularly interested in whether he was born in the county or not.

Many thanks

Thank you Mike that is absolutely great.  It was the Denton link which I was trying to establish for William.

Hi Mike,

Sorry I didn't answer your question about whether John was William's brother.  I needed to think about it but the answer is probably not.  I think their fathers were both Roberts but different ones.  It is the usual problem of families using the same name over and over again and the resulting jigsaw with all the blue sky pieces that don't quite fit together.

Do you think that you could give me John's details from 1851 please.  I need to try to confirm which John he is, as he seems to have the wrong wife.  I would have expected an Ann born in Saltby.

many thanks

Thank you again Mike.  More than I asked for, which I much appreciate.  You have this time exposed the problem that I am walking round and trying to solve.

William Ebenezer Edlin who married Susannah Attiwell was born in 1799 the son of a William Edlin probably in Croxton Kerriall.  He was the father of the New Zealand dynasty and the three brothers who founded it.  He lived in Eaton most of his life.

William Edlin who was born in 1777, was the one who married Mary Ashbourn and later Jane Bunney has been suggested as the father of William Ebenezer by a previous marriage.  The 1841 census showed a mixture of the children by these two marriages.  The one month old Mary is a mystery, except that she might be the daughter of William Ebenezer.

Thank you again

Greeting's Again David .....

Yes unfortunately they didn't put the
relationship to head of Household on the 1841. Census
and place of birth which would have solved your problems....

I've just had a look on another disk I have
( Phillimore Parish Marriages )

Details found :-

Kirby Bellars Parish.
William Edlin Widow. of Croxton Kerrial in the County of Leicestershire.
Jane Bunney of the Parish of Kirby Bellars.
20th. April 1822.
By LICENCE

And the Robert Edlin ~ Ann Platts.
Goadby Marwood
Both of this Parish.
Witness :- John Edlin.

Sorry there is no records for Croxton Kerrial out yet

Seeing that it was by Licence ...
Would you like me to have a look at the entries
at the Records Office in Wigston next Week ?
There Will be extra details held on an Index cards as it was by Licence
hopefully there will be more details on there ?
Also see if any Baptism records are held
for your William Ebenezer ?

Thank you very much for all your help on this Mike.  As a result of all the work by various people over the last couple of weeks we have managed to fit together what was previously three unlinked families and take them back three generations.
