Charlotte Joseph
« on: Thursday 02 March 06 21:07 GMT (UK) »

Hi

Is anyone able to look up this person on the 1841, 51 or 61 census records please.  She was born 1840 and married in 1865.  Her father was Thomas Joseph and she was resident in Oswestry at the time of her marriage.  I feel St Martin has a connection - perhaps she was born here but not sure.  Any help would be appreciated

Regards
Jane

1851

HO107/1993, folio 15, page no ?

Rhos, Weston Rhyn

Thomas Joseph Head Marr 46 Ag Lab born St Martins Shropshire
Mary Joseph Wife Marr born Trevorclygld ?? Shropshire
Charlotte Joseph Daugher Unm 10 born St Martins
Sarah Joseph Daughter Unm 7 born St Martins
Ann Joseph Daughter Unm 1 born St Martins

and today must be your lucky day, because on the same page living in two neighbouring properties are two other JOSEPH families:

Thomas Joseph Head Widr 79 Ag Lab born St Martins
Mary Joseph Daughter ** 56 born St Martins

and

Edward Joseph Head Marr 42 Ag Lab born St Martins
Jane Joseph Wife Marr 33 born Llanyblodwell Shropshire
Edward Joseph Son Unm 8 At home born St Martins

**  I'm not 100% certain whether it's showing a U for unmarried, or W for Widow although it does look the same as the W in Widower.  If she is a Widow then technically she is Thomas's daughter in law.

I don't have access to the 1841

Hi Jane

Rhos, Weston Rhyn is half way between Weston Rhyn and Bronygarth. i do have access to the 1841 Census, but it's not indexed so it might take me until tomorrow if that's OK Smiley

Hi Jane

It really is your lucky day  Smiley This is what I've found on HO 107/916/4/26. As you know the 1841 is a bit limited. I've put those of 15 and over into the bands that were used in the 1841 census

Rhos, Weston Rhyn
Thomas Joseph, 30 - 34, Ag Lab
Mary, 30 - 34
Mary, 11
Thomas, 10
Jane, 8
Robert, 5
James, 3
Charlotte, it looks like 9 months

All are born 'County'

Next door are:
Thomas Joseph, 65-69, ag lab
Edward, ?30- 34 or 50-54, Ag lab
Elizabeth, 20-24
Mary Price, 45 - 49

I'll  try and find Charlotte's father, Thomas, baptism later. My eyes a bit 'squiffy' now Cool

Hello Jane
I've been squinting thru my St Martins' parish stuff and found the following:
December 19 1828 Thomas Joseph and Mary Morris - it doesn't give any places of residence (this often depended on whether the vicar/clerk was in a gregarious mood Wink )

July 14 1805 (b. June 28(?)) Thomas, s. of Thomas and Mary Joseph, Weston (Rhyn)

June 25 1807 Mary , d. of William and Mary Morris, Glyn Morlas
Glyn Morlas is a lovely little valley - I think there was a bit of weaving there along the banks of the River Morlas.

There is a book about the parishes St Martins and Weston Rhyn (which separated from St M sometime in the ?1870s) by C. Neville Hurdsman. It has a section on Glyn Morlas and the other places your ancestors lived. They're a bit difficult to get hold of. I got mine from Osbooks in Oswestry, which do an online ordering. You might be able to get it via an inter-library loan as well.

As far as I can remember, the IGI does have fairly good records for St Martins. The relevant Batch nos are:
Births (1663- 1746) C085801 (1747-1841) - C085801
Marriages (1663-1837) M085801

Hope this will help you with your quest
