Deleting topics - tell us why!
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 22:54 GMT (UK) »

I have no objection to moderators deleting topics - that's what they're there for.  But when it's not obvious why, could they please give us the reason.  Huh

There was a topic, not started by me, about a new website.  I looked at the site, it seemed a good idea, and I said so.  Now I get the message that the topic has been deleted.  I'd like to know why, because I've put information onto this site, and if there's something wrong with it I need to know.

Same thing happened to me about 'My Heritage'. I found it useful but apparently others didn't agree and the link was deleted. When I had the notification I was concerned about trojans etc ( I'm parnoid !)
Trystan answered my question quickly but knowing why to start with, would have been great.

I'm sure there were good reasons for it - and unfortunately without knowing which site it was, I know I cannot answer why on this particular one.  The notification will have told you who deleted it - perhaps your query would be better directed to that moderator.

The most obvious reasons for deletion (other than rudeness, inappropriate language or abusiveness) are:
conflict of interests, too similar to RootsChat, inappropriate advertising.

It may well have fallen into that category - it doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with that site.
