where do i look? WALMSLEY competed thanks everyone
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 06:40 GMT (UK) »

Hi there.

last time i researched this family was 18 yrs ago, did as much as i could then, no internet of course.

so i have
William WALMSELY b c 1831 Liverpool England  ( cant place him IGI)
Married Sarah Ann WHITE  10 feb 1855 Liverpool st silas, vol 8 page 311 FreeBMD

Sarah b c 1836 in Preston,? her father was Robert white.
Williams parents  was john walmsley and Margaret Cowen. so a marriage cert is not going to give me any more

is it possible to find out more about them before leaving for Australia
.

Death cert have William's father as a ship owner.

10 march 1855 they sailed to Australia, into Melborne on the "Blanche Moore"
William was 24 - a gent, Sarah wife  19 in first cabin,
they had 4 girls in Australia then came to Tauranga, NZ and had another 1 girl and 3 boys,  William had an amazing and interesting life in Tauranga, which i have researched.

She died in 1901 and he died in 1913.

appreciate any advise.. do i search every parish record for a birth Huh i am not sure,

best wishes Ann

Hi Anne

Have checked the marriage out on the BRVI  at the time of the marriage
William was aged 22 and Sarah was aged 21

William father is listed as  Edward Walmsley and not John Walsmley.

will pm you.

Ann

Hopefully someone may be able to find them in the 1841-1851 census so they maybe able to give more family details. It may be a good idea to ask for a census look up, good luck

Hi,

There is a possible William Walmsley living with his grandparents on the 1851 in Sefton.  Did your William have anything to do with being a Chemist or Surgeon?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=133089.new;topicseen#new

this is the site i posted to request a census look up. thinking this family of my husbands cant be as bad as my family to find, so i posted both familys, william WALMSELY and sarah WHITE. As they married 1855 and month later sailed to aust.  mistake, sarah is ok, found her, but there must be 100's of walmsley's, oh dear,

I have got williams father is now Edward not john, john is the brother who also went to aust, not sure when,,, ( do people do passengers look ups)  and may be his parents left as well before 1851.  or died, hard to trace when they didnt live very long..

I would put my money on william staying with his grandparents, so the HO107/2191  folio 380 pg 3 must be him.
brother may have left by then.

William was brought from aust to NZ to fight in the maori wars in the 1860's
at Gate  Pa. Tauranga.  after that he was a main character of tauranga, being on every board etc.  i have some very funny stories ,out of news papers about him in the 1870's.  i do rembember family saying he was studing to be a Dr. before leaving

 best wishes ann
thanking you
