Hi Alice,
I wonder if you have this information from the 1881 census?
I see George is a carman born Lee Kent age 25 and Esther is down as born Leeds. I can trace a George Burges born Lee back a follows: 1871: RG10/765 54 44 Lee, Kent Hamilton Ter William Burges, head, 42, Groom, b. Kensington Louisa, wife, 52, b. Essex William, son, 18, Jockey, b. Kent Lee George, son, 16, Jockey, b. do. Caroline, dau, 14, b. do. Alice, son (!), 8, b. do.
1861 RG9/414 94 6 & 7 Lee, Kent Boone Street William Burgess, head, 32, Coachman, b. Middlesex Louisa, wife, 43?, b. Middlesex Marylebone William, son, 9, scholar, b. Kent Lee George, son, 7, scholar, b. do. Caroline, dau, 5, scholar, b. do. Ann Wise, grandmother, wid, 72, Domestic? servant, b. Sussex? John Rushbrook, lodger, dittoed 'wid'), 21, Gardener, b. Norfolk
Any chance this is him?

Hi Alice, I also am researching Burgess from Middlesex. I have a William Burgess who married Ann Wise 1809. The 1861 census entry shows the connection. Look forward to hearing from you. I am in South Australia
