HUNTing down the past (haha - GENIUS)

What should I put in?
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 15:25 GMT (UK) »

Hiya,
I am currently collating all of my family tree info and putting it altogether in a folder so that future generations will have it all there to look at (lucky things!). I've put in census returns, certificates etc, as well as newspaper articles and old family photos...can anyone think of anything else that I should put in so as to complete it?
Thanks!

HI Katie, good for you.  I'm in the process of doing the very same thing but I'm finding it quite difficult as of course I didn't listen to people in the know and I haven't documented how I found my ancestors - I think this is really important as it will also show how your families are connected.

I was thinking of putting in mine things that would bring each family to life eg:

Information about the Industrial revolution

Living condtions at the time-especialy how people dealt with pooh - everyone for some reason is interested in that.

Wars at the time - politicians in power

Famous/infamous people - eg - writers, painters, murderers (Jack the Ripper, Sweeney Tod etc)

The legal system - would someone be put into the stocks, hanged, burned at the stake etc

Also, include photos of the towns or old pictures of the town where they lived.

Just some ideas - good luck with it

Another one that I've put in is the population of towns and villages when my family were living there, to show the type of community they were in.

I find Genuki great for this.
