Jane White Laing, Prince Albert, Sask
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 15:50 GMT (UK) »

Since posting my last message I have discovered Jane White Laing [who left for Canada 1906/1908] lived at 117, 17th Street, Prince Albert, Sask. in 1916. She was the widow of James Laing [d. Berwickshire, Scotland]. Her son George Laing was in the Canadian Infantry, Canadian expeditionary force, 179th Bn. He died in 1916. Looking for any relatives of this family to share information.

Hello

there are entries for Jane and George Laing in the 1913 Henderson Directory for Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. George is listed as working for the CNR (Canadian National Railway, I believe) and Jane is listed as a widow.

Here are the other Laings listed in Prince Albert in this directory

Alex Laing - employee of CNR
James Laing - Orderly in the hospital
William Laing - Clerk

Hope this might help

Thank you very much for that [ after 1911 census it is difficult to get any information] as it must be our George and Jane. I will have to look at the other Laings you found as they may be related.
Brilliant find today - have now found my way to the Attestation papers of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force which has taken me up to 1916 when, unfortunately, George died. His brother, Henry, signed up about 4 months later.
Several Laings went out at different times so unless their descendants are interested in genealogy  it may take some time to track them down, if at all!
Thanks again,
Rae
