Hello everyone I am trying to locate a street "Causeway" that was mentioned in 1861 census for Milton Berks which nowadays is probably Milton Oxon I would like to hear from anyone with local knowledge whether this street still exists as it doesn't turn up on Streetmap ,Multimap etc Just as a background My convict ancestor John Beesley was transported 1842 for stealing cheese among other things from a shopkeeper John Lampet of Milton My mission in life is to return the cheese and make amends I am hoping that the olde worlde shop of the 1840s is still there and hasn't been replaced by a Condo development or a carpark or the like cheers Chris Beasley
Chris I know the area well, living just a few miles away. There is a Causeway in Steventon, a village about three miles from Milton. There was a shop in the Causeway until very recently. I don't know how long the shop had been on that site - but it was a tiny and old fashioned Co-op that was relocated onto a busier street in Steventon. I have attached a map of Steventon. The shop was just where the envelope symbol is on the Causeway, there is still a post box where the shop used to be. Katie
