Liz:
If you haven't already, you might want to check these postings:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/heavey/
And:
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/1901census/crusheen_ded_ballyline21_28.htm
Although this census is from Clare, you will note that these persons were born in Galway. Could this be your Thomas? I know the age is a bit off.

I have a Mary Heavey in Oranmore in my wife's line.  Her maiden name was KING I believe.  We visited with her some years ago and I don't know if she is still alive.  She lived in a small home, just north of the main pub.

Hi
I have a 19 year old Mary Heavey from Co Galway, emmigrating from Ireland to Western Australia 1852 on board a 'Brideship' called the Palestine.   She married a William Beard in Australia 1854.

She was on board the same ship as my great great grandmother Mary Dooley b c1826, whom we also believe was from Co Galway, the daughter of an Edward Dooley (whitesmith), possibly from Ballinasloe, Galway. Edward's brother was Lawrence and children, Patrick, Larry jnr, Catherine, Martin, Thomas, William whom emmigrated to the US (Bridget remained in Ireland.

I would love to hear if anyone has a connection to this family.

There is a 1911 Census record for Thomas Heavey aged 31 with Wife Maggie/Margaret Maiden name unknown, residing with Thomas Heavey's Aunt Mary Connelly aged 73 a widow at Ballynacorra (Ffrench) (Cloonkeen, Galway).
Thomas Heavey and Maggie married 2 years with one Son Thomas aged 1

This is an instant response :

My mother is a Heavey from Athenry, Co Galway. The name Thomas is prominent throughout that Heavey family. A Thomas Heavey married Margaret Hynes, but that would be in the 1860s.

The majority of Heaveys seem to be from the Kiltoom area of Co Roscommon.

Thank you for relaying the origins of the Heavey's.  I don't think you were replying to me, but this may help us find the origins of our Dooley family, as there was a Mary Heavey travelling on an Irish 'brideship' along with my great great grandmother, Mary Dooley, to Australia 1852.  We knew Mary Heavey was from Co Galway, but did not know where our Mary Dooley was from.  There was always the possibility that these girls were cousins.

Thank you again
