Appleby parish records
« on: Wednesday 01 March 06 16:14 GMT (UK) »

A while ago I put in the following request. Obviously no one was able to help. But does anyone have any suggestions how I can help myself? Where could I look? Who could I contact?
Thanks again
Gill

"Does anyone out there have access to the parish records of Appleby?

I would like to check the marriage of John FROW in 1816 (I think) to Ann. Was it to Ann FOWL or Ann Towls. I thought this could be the same person, depending on the handwriting (I was given this information some time ago and haven' t seen the record myself)

But now I am trying to check out this information I find there is both an Ann Fowl and Ann Towls around the area at that time !!

The information I was given was that they married in Appleby, but there first three children were born in Immingham, Barrow-on-Humber and Owmby. The rest were born in Appleby."

I can only suggest you contact Lincs Archives-

Lincolnshire Archives,
St. Rumbold Street,
Lincoln LN2 5AB, England.
Their phone numbers are: (01522)525158 (Search Room Appointments) and (01522)526204 (Other Inquiries).

They seem to have the Appleby registers http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/archives/section.asp?docId=28367

I see that the IGI record gives it as Ann Fowl but that may not be much help as it might be wrongly transcribed!  At least it will give you the date to ask the Archives office to check the original for you.
www.familysearch.org   The IGI covers 1599 - 1837 for Appleby.
If the baptisms of the children are on there too it may give a maiden name for mother.  It does happen sometimes if you are very lucky.
