Help! Sheerness 'White' before 1837
« on: Friday 03 March 06 16:01 GMT (UK) »

Please can anyone help me find information on my gggrandparents births and marriage 1800, 1803, both in Sheerness.  Thomas White and Jane??? 1861 Census has them still in Sheerness, states both born there.  Thomas was a shipwright.  Their son Thomas my ggrandfather 24 (born1836) and a butcher.
Their births and mariage happened before registration - so where do I go from here?  I live in Devon miles away of Isle of Sheppey, so can't just visit - should I try writing to the local churches?  Any ideas gratefully received

Have you had any luck with this search?

There are transcriptions for Sheerness Dockyard Church on Colin Penney's site:

Hi Smiley
Cant find a marriage between Thomas and Jane, but I did find a possible baptism for Thomas:

Minster, Sheppey - Thomas White 25-10-1801 s/o Obediah and Mary White

I also found the following baptisms for children of Thomas and Jane, baptised in Queenborough (Sheppey):

Thomas Valantine (sic) White born 14-2-1833 bapt 26-5-1833 s/o Thomas and Jane (Shipwright of Sheerness)
Thomas Edward White born 11-7-1836 bapt 30-10-1836 as above
Selina White bapt 29-3-1839 as above

I'm assuming the first Thomas died before 1836 but I cant see a record of burial for him.

I'll keep looking to see if I can find a marriage for you.

If there's anything further you need, please let me know
