How can i find my Grt Grt Grt Grandfathers birth date and his parents.All i know is he was born on the Isle of Lewis and his name was John Morrison.The story goes that he was banned from Lewis because he married an Irish catholic and his father was a staunch orangeman.My mother was told when she was young that the Morrisons were very wealthy and she thought they had something to do with the construction industry.Can anyone help.Anne.

Thankyou Twink,i have already tried a while back now and they said they couldnt give me any info and to try one of their professional genealogists for Lewis,i would have done but they were quite expensive.I dont know of a site that does free genealogy for Isle of Lewis either,but thankyou for your help.Anne.

Hello again Twink,i havent tried Scotlands People as its a pay per view site and i have spent an awful lot of money trying to find other info,i am not prepared to spend any more at the moment.I dont have Johns birth,all i know is he married Mary Conally who was an irish catholic and their oldest daughter was born about 1858 in Berwick.Their son William was my Grt Grandfather and he was born 1859.My mother said he was banned from Lewis because he married a catholic and was as far as she knows never allowed to return.I can find no record of their marriage either in Scotland or Ierland.I think i will leave this one to rest for the moment and when i get some more spare money i will try another pay per view site.Thankyou again Twink for your help.Anne.

Hi Twink,thankyou so much for your help,and thankyou for taking the time and useing your credits to look for me that was really very nice of you.I have worked out that if Johns oldest daughter was born in 1858,take 25 years approx off that ie the year of his birth he would have been born around 1829 onwards.Looking at the names of parents and the Scottish nameing patterns,from 1829 there are no Peters Janets Alexanders Donalds or Lilias in his family or next generations.There is William Isabella and Margaret so i reckon that John Morrison born 6th Oct 1829 parents William Morrison and Isabella Mcdonald could be his parents.Thanks to your kindness and effort it has given me a bit more to go by.Once again Twink thankyou so much for your help.Anne.
