I am seeking info regarding my great great great grandfather and his family. His name is Nathaniel Newstead, born about 1813. He was a Merchant Mariner.
He married Jane Elizabeth Shearing on 19 October 1856 at the parish church of Gorleston, Suffolk. Both were residing in Southtown, Norfolk at the time.
As best that I can make out on the marriage entry, Nathaniel's father appears to be James Newstead, also a sailor.
I had posted a request on the Norfolk board, and it was suggested that perhaps the Newsteads were across the boarder maybe at Lowestoft, Suffolk. That led me here.
Does anyone have a parish record for Nathaniel's christening that would shed light on his parent's names, and sibling, etc???

Was he definitely about 43yrs old on the marriage certificate? Seems a bit old for a first marriage

Yes, he was definately 43 on the certificate, and listed as a bachelor. They were married in October, and their son John George was born Feb. 16, so do the math ;-) Jane was born in 1822, Limpenhoe, she was 34 when they married.
