Greetings from the good ol' USofA. Sarah was my gggrandmother. Am trying to find info on her time in New Brunswick, where she married one Archibald Geautraux. They went to Maine, living in Patten, later, Orono. She remarried a Longley, who outlived her. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, 12.

A timescale would help

Civil BMD records start fairly late (1888 was the date official BMD records started, although some births and marriages from earlier on were then registered as delayed records).

Earlier than that, there are church records which would require you to know which denomination (presumably Roman Catholic?) and area the family were from.  Available censuses are 1851 (doesn't survive for all areas) and 1861, 1871, 1881 onwards etc.  1881 and 1901 censuses are indexed right across NB, others have partial transcriptions or indexes for some areas.

It might be worth looking for something like land records or directory records for Archibald to try and pin down when and where the family were in NB, because without that you can't do much.  Some data is online at archives.gnb.ca - you might find 'Geautraux' is actually Gautreaux or Gautreau (and other similar spellings etc.)
